Interview with Melissa Rutz
|
We would like to thank Melissa Rutz for graciously taking some time out of her busy schedule to be interviewed by Dance WCS. DWCS’ first exposure to Melissa Rutz was at Seattle Easter Swing (SES) 2002, where her dance technique clearly stood out in the Classic piece she did with Arjay Centeno. Melissa won the Novice division at that event and there has been no looking back... on to the interview. |
Rhythm and Motion WCS Workshop wrap up.
We'd like to thank Rhythm
TSDS lesson and dance.
Last Friday's Tronto Swing Dance Society Friday night dance was a huge success. We had a big turnout of dancers who filled the floor, while the TSDS's guest DJs' Laura Valaroso and David Hutcheson spun the tunes. Thank you again to the TSDS for inviting Shelley Saxena and Dave Hutcheson to teach Friday night's lesson. They used 'The Gear' to demonstrate how to note a '1' or musical accent, and at the same time offer your partner and yourself the opportunity for individual expression of the music while dancing within the partnership. The 'Bow and Arrow' was used to show how simple a 'big move' can be, and how a subtle core movement can initiate a lead when you have a good connection. We have a couple of catchy alternative endings to the 'Bow and Arrow' we'll cover sometime in the future. As always we emphasize connection, and body leads via connecting with and moving from your core. Fundamentals our instructors always incorporate in their lessons.

Arjay and Melissa
A big thanks to Andie in Rochester for bringing in Arjay and Melissa Feb 22-24. Arjay and Melissa bring a new energy and excitment to the dance which is meant to help you connect to the dance and your partner at a new level through your individuality and dance technique. Their concepts of creating space, perpetual motion and channeling will challenge and reward your dancing. In the true spirit of dance they danced with all who asked, and their demos were fantastic!!! They teach what they do, NOT 'do as I say, not what I do'. The instruction Melissa gave Shelley in her private resulted in one of the best privates Shelley has ever had. Stayed tuned for pictures.
Where can you dance this week?
We're planning on dancing at the Dovercourt Tuesday at 8:30pm, and Saturday at the Dry Gulch, Buffalo.
