Dave believes in the 3 P's of dance.  You are a pupil of dance, learn and grow in your ability.  This requires practice, dance at every opportunity.  Finally every dance is a performance, give yourself to it.

Tune your Body 

A good body lead consists of first getting your body to do what you want your partner's body to do.  This statement is one of the guiding principles behind Dave's dance philosophy.  Your partner's body will only do or match what you can do with your body, therefore the better control you have over your own body the better control you will have over your partners. 

Dance with your partner

Connection is one of the hardest things to develop.  Dave places a huge emphasis on connection.  A good connection, such as shoulders back, good tone and finger shape is essential to "dance with your partner", or "get your partner".  You can see when a dance lacks connection, both physically and mentally, and without a good connection you may as well be dancing alone. 

Tell a story

Try to capture some element of the music in your dancing.  An element could be accents, the musical phrasing, the vocals, or shifts in intensity such as big, medium and small moments.  Showing these elements to your audience helps them enjoy the music as well.  One of the highest compliments I believe you can receive is when someone says you told a story in your dance.  Story telling is to one of the highest elements of on the fly, social dancing.

 Private Lessons

Dave is available evening and weekends to work with you on your dancing.  We can work on specifics such as musicality, connection, footwork, body leads or specific patterns.  You can prepare a list of items in advance,  or you can dance with a partner and we'll identify areas to improve your technique, lines and all round enjoyment of the dance.  We can also video your dancing, and give you a brief video record of your lesson.  

Privates are $45.00 Cdn per hour.
