Private Lessons
Private Lessons are the most concentrated method of learning how to dance, and privates have the potential to make the greatest impact on your dancing. In a Private Lesson the instructor works with you one on one to improve your dancing. Often in a private lesson the instructor will dance with you or watch you dance with your partner and then identify areas which need correction. You can choose to work on these areas, or you can come prepared with a list of items to work on. If you leave the agenda to the instructor you should be prepared to make adjustments to your dancing in areas that you were not aware needed improving. This could include your walks, posture, shoulders, arms and wrist position, even your breathing. A private could also be concentrated on improving your spins, following technique or hip motion. Each private is unique and based upon the instructors style and the student's needs at that moment. Some instructors are chosen for for their ability to access what a student needs. Angel Figeuroa (Texas) is one such instructor who has had a positive impact on many dancers. If you appreciate a certain Dancer's style or technique, such as Kyle Redd (California/Texas) you may choose to take a private with them. Be sure you know why you are choosing a certain instructor for a private.
The impact of a private lesson depends on 3 things. The quality of the instruction, having an open and positive attitude, and how you apply what you've learned. This includes making notes, and practicing what you've learned. Repetition, repetition, repetition, and floor time.
When we give privates we work on specifics such as musicality, connection, footwork, body leads, as well as lead and follow technique. We will also work on specific patterns if desired.
